The CZ P-09 is a versatile, powerful and accurate semi-automatic CO2 pistol that is a firm favourite with shooters. Here are the key points:
- Technical specifications 4.5 mm calibre, blowback system, 3.7 joules power
- Design and ergonomics modern look, comfortable grip, picatinny rail
- Performance excellent precision, realistic recoil, superior build quality
- Value for money very good for a budget of around €150-160
Hi friends! Today we're going to be talking about a little gem that I had the pleasure of testing in my armoury: the CZ P-09. Prepare to be amazed by this semi-automatic pistol, which is causing quite a stir among shooters. I'm going to give you my full, unvarnished opinion, as usual!
Technical specifications of the CZ P-09
Let's start with the specs of this little marvel. The CZ P-09 is a semi-automatic CO2 pistol in 4.5mm (.177) calibre. Manufactured by ASG under CZ licence, this model works with 12g CO2 cartridges. Its versatility is a real plus: it can fire both BB steel and diabolo pellets.
The blowback system (moving breech) adds a touch of realism. The rotary magazine has a capacity of 2×8 shots, for a total of 16. The frame is made of polymer, while the breech is alloy. The rifled steel barrel measures approximately 12 cm.
In terms of power, we're talking about a hefty 3.7 joules. I measured speeds of between 104 and 122 m/s, depending on the projectiles used. Autonomy is around 50 shots per CO2 cartridge, which is about average for this type of weapon.
Design and ergonomics
The CZ P-09 has a modern, aggressive look. It's available in black, two-tone or desert. Personally, I'm partial to the two-tone version, but to each his own! The dimensions are 19 cm (length) x 15 cm (height) x 3 cm (width), weighing in at 709g.
The ergonomics are top-notch, with a grip dotted with pimples and ridges for a secure hold. The ambidextrous safety is a plus for left-handers. The picatinny rail under the barrel lets you add accessories if you feel like it.
Aiming and precision
The fixed sight with white dots is effective, although I would have appreciated adjustable sights. But make no mistake, the accuracy of this CZ P-09 is truly impressive. In fact, it's one of the strongest points cited by users.
I remember one shooting session where I managed to group my impacts in a 2 cm zone at 10 metres. Not bad for a CO2 pistol, eh?
Shooting performance and feel
Now for the serious stuff: shooting! Visit CZ P-09 does not disappoint in this respect. The power is there, and the recoil simulated by the blowback system adds a much appreciated sense of realism.
The average trigger weight measured was 2.1 kg. That's decent, even if some shooters find the trigger travel a little long. Personally, I quickly got used to it.
Manufacturing quality
The finish and build quality are top-notch. You can feel that ASG has spared no expense to produce a faithful and durable replica. The adjustments are precise and the materials of good quality. In short, it's solid!
Here's a quick summary of the strengths and weaknesses:
Highlights | Weak points |
---|---|
Excellent accuracy | Relaxation run a little long |
High power | Non-adjustable sight |
Manufacturing quality | Average range (50 shots) |

Feedback
Overall, user reviews are very positive. Out of 77 reviews, the CZ P-09 has an average score of 4.19/5. It's a solid performer! The strongest points cited were :
- Precision
- The power
- Manufacturing quality
- Realism
I can only confirm this feedback. I've had the opportunity to give it a try to many customers in my gunsmith's shop, and very few of them have not been won over.
Final verdict: excellent value for money
So, what do you think of this CZ P-09? Frankly, for a price of around €150-160, it's an excellent deal. You get a high-performance, accurate and well-finished semi-automatic CO2 pistol. It's as realistic as they come, and the shooting feel is really pleasant.
Of course, there are a few small points that could be improved, such as the relaxation run or the autonomy. But frankly, at this price, it's not much. If you're looking for a reliable, high-performance CO2 pistol for leisure shooting or training, the CZ P-09 is a choice I can wholeheartedly recommend.
Don't hesitate to come and try it out in my gun shop if you're in the area. I'll be delighted to show you around and share a few shooting anecdotes over a coffee. In the meantime, happy shooting to you all!
